Let’s get started!

Why won’t my Vizio TV turn on but the light is on?

When you press the power button on your Vizio TV, does the power light turn on but the TV doesn’t turn on? This could be a problem with the TV itself or with your power source.

There are a few reasons why your Vizio TV might not turn on, but the light is on.

HDMI Standby Mode

One reason could be that the TV is in standby mode. To turn it off, you can use the power button on the TV or the remote. If there is no image on the screen, your TV might be in HDMI standby mode.

Faulty Power Supply

A power Supply Fault can cause issues that can lead to your TV not turning on.

Bad Power Cord

Now let’s check the troubleshooting and fixes to get your Vizio TV not turned on the issue is solved.

How to Fix Vizio TV Won’t Turn On?

When your Vizio TV won’t turn on, there are a few troubleshooting steps you can try to get it working again.

The following tips will get you done:

Step #1. Power Cycle Vizio TV

If your Vizio TV won’t turn on, the first thing you should do is to check that your Vizio TV is properly plugged into the wall outlet.

Sometimes, a loose connection can cause your TV to not turn on. Unplugging the TV and plugging it back in may fix the issue.

The first thing you should do is unplug the TV from the wall. Let it sit for at least 30 seconds.

Then, plug it back into the wall and turn the TV back on. If this doesn’t work, try a couple more times to turn it on.

Step #2. Reset Vizio TV

Try removing the batteries from your Vizio remote and then replacing them. This can sometimes resolve the issue.

You can also try using a different remote to see if that helps. Batteries can sometimes drain over time, so replacing them can help.

When you press the power button on your remote and nothing happens, the problem is usually that the batteries are dead.

If your remote is more than a year old, the batteries may just be corroded and need to be replaced.

Remove the batteries and replace them with new ones. If your remote is under a year old, it may be that the batteries are fine and the problem is the remote.

You can test the remote by putting new batteries in it and turning on a TV that the remote is known to control.

If the TV turns on and off when you press the buttons on the remote, you have a problem with your TV. If the TV does not turn on and off, you have a problem with your remote.

Step #3. Factory reset Vizio TV

With Remote

If your Vizio TV is still not turning on, you may need to perform a factory reset.

This will restore the settings and configurations to their default values and could fix any issues that might be causing the problem.

Factory reset Vizio TV. This works for any Vizio TV model.

Without Remote

If you don’t have your Vizio remote available, you may need to perform the factory reset manually. This will involve navigating through the menus on the TV itself.

Consult the user manual or online instructions for detailed instructions on how to do this. To factory reset without the remote:

Step #4. Reseat the power cord on the back of the Vizio TV

In some cases, a loose power cable can also cause your Vizio TV to not turn on. Check to make sure that the power cord is tightly connected to both the outlet and the back of your TV.

You can also try unplugging the cord and then plugging it back in to see if that helps.

The power cord often gets damaged from the time it is plugged into a wall outlet. As a result, the TV cannot turn on. If the TV turns on, replace the power cord with a new one.

Step #5. Select the Correct Input Source

If you are able to turn on your Vizio TV, but it doesn’t display any content, you may need to select the correct input source.

This will allow your TV to display the input from the cable box, gaming console, or another device that you are trying to use. Consult the user manual for instructions on how to select different inputs.

Step #6. Try a different power outlet

If you’ve tried all of the above troubleshooting steps and your Vizio TV still won’t turn on, try plugging it into a different power outlet. This will rule out any potential problems with the outlet itself.

Your Power Outlet Socket may get damaged and needs to be repaired. Even issues with MCB wiring can cause issues in the Power Outlet of the Socket.

You would get to know the issue with your Power Outlet by switching the connection to another Power Outlet.

Step #7. Checking the Surge Protector

If you use a Surge Protector to connect your TV, then you need to also check if it is working fine or not.

It may happen that your Surge Protector’s fuse has got damaged and you need to replace that to make it work again.

There is an opening in the surge protector where you can take out the Fuse and inspect yourself.

Generally, a fuse must have a single continuous metallic wire. If you see it has got torn, which may happen due to any excessive passage of current, you need to replace the fuse to fix it.

Step #8. Power supply replacement

If your Vizio TV is still not turning on, it’s possible that the power supply may need to be replaced.

This is a more advanced troubleshooting step and should only be attempted if you are comfortable working with electronics.

The power supply is the part of the TV that provides power to the other components. A faulty power supply will prevent the TV from turning on.

Open the back of your TV and check the power supply. Replace it if it is damaged.

Replacing the power supply is generally not a do-it-yourself project and might require the assistance of a qualified technician.

If the power supply is not damaged, replace the motherboard.

Step #9. Contact Vizio customer service

If your Vizio TV is still not working, check if you have a Warranty available on your TV. If it is still covered in the Warranty, contact Vizio USA Customer Support and raise your concern.

If it is not covered under warranty, you may need to purchase a new TV or send the TV for repair.

Step #10. Take the TV to a repair shop

If your Warranty is already over then you can visit a local TV Repair Shop in your city.

There are often issues with the circuit board of the TV. Often it happens that some capacitors get burnt or it gets damaged.

The local Repair shop would be able to inspect your TV’s internal Hardware components.

They would do the diagnosis and give you the total repair cost based on the component that needs to be replaced.
